What to Consider When Choosing Polycarbonate Roofing and Awnings

Choosing the right polycarbonate awning or roof involves more than selecting a style. These practical factors also matter.

Thickness Based on Use

Thicker panels offer greater strength and insulation, ideal for carports or exposed areas. Thinner sheets work well for small shelters or decorative use.

Clear panels provide maximum daylight, while tinted options help reduce glare and heat. Your environment and preferences will guide this choice.

High humidity, strong sun, and sudden downpours call for materials that are UV-stabilised, water-resistant, and built to last in tropical climates.

Proper support framing, water drainage, and sealing are key to long-term performance, all reasons to entrust your polycarbonate roof to trained professionals.

Select finishes that are easy to clean and resist algae or discolouration to keep your panels looking fresh over time.

If you are looking for curtains, look no further. Tim provides great service and high-quality, sturdy curtains at a fair price. We’ve had ours 3 years now. Even after all this time, Tim helped us replace some hooks that my kid broke, and he didn't even charge us for them. A business that really cares about its customers!

Really happy we went with Window Art for our blinds, curtains, and ziptrack needs. We came to them last minute, and special thank you to our rep Wilson, who made it work without any fuss at all. We had our fair share of indecision/questions as new owners, and he was kind, patient, and gave practical advice throughout. He went the extra mile to ensure everything was installed before we moved in, which I'm still amazed by. The aftersales service has been solid too. Zero stress on our end! I would highly highly recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a polycarbonate roof?

A polycarbonate roof is a roofing system made from high-performance thermoplastic panels that are lightweight, durable, and impact resistant. It is commonly used for patios, balconies, car porches, walkways, and outdoor seating areas because it provides weather protection while allowing natural light to pass through.

What are the benefits of polycarbonate roof awnings?

Polycarbonate roof awnings provide shelter from rain while reducing exposure to UV rays without completely blocking daylight. They are also lightweight, durable, and available in different colours and transparency levels to suit various architectural styles.

Is a polycarbonate roof suitable for Singapore's climate?

Yes, polycarbonate roofs are well suited to Singapore’s hot, humid, and rainy weather. Quality polycarbonate panels are designed to withstand prolonged sun exposure and heavy rainfall while maintaining their structural performance with proper installation and maintenance.

How long does a polycarbonate roof last?

A polycarbonate roof can last for many years when manufactured from quality materials and installed correctly. Its lifespan depends on factors such as panel quality, environmental exposure, routine cleaning, and regular inspections.

Does a polycarbonate roof require regular maintenance?

Yes, regular maintenance helps keep a polycarbonate roof performing well and looking its best. Cleaning the panels with mild soap and water, removing leaves and debris, and inspecting the supporting framework periodically can help extend its service life.

Can a polycarbonate roof reduce heat?

Yes, certain polycarbonate roof systems are designed with heat-reducing or UV-filtering properties that help minimise solar heat gain. The level of heat reduction depends on the panel type, colour, thickness, and installation design.

Where can polycarbonate roof awnings be installed?

Polycarbonate roof awnings are suitable for a wide range of residential and commercial applications. They are commonly installed over balconies, terraces, patios, car porches, entranceways, covered walkways, and outdoor dining areas where weather protection and natural light are both desired.

What should I consider before installing a polycarbonate roof?

Before installing a polycarbonate roof, consider the intended use of the space, the amount of sunlight and rainfall it receives, the desired level of light transmission, and the structural support available. Consulting an experienced installer can help ensure the roofing system is designed to suit your property’s requirements.
